Avezzano – L’Aquila | Italy

Seismic vulnerability assessment of Hospital Complex located in Avezzano

The hospital complex of Avezzano consists of the main block which has seven floors above ground and other buildings such as the church, the technical centre, the electrical room and the Tac-Resuscitation pavilion.

The materials and construction details survey stage was calibrated in such a way as to achieve a proper level of knowledge (LC2). A total of 1000 tests were divided into sampling of concrete cores and reinforcing bars, sclerometric surveys, ultrasound investigations and pachometer investigations.

To supplement the on site and laboratory investigations, a series of dynamic tests was planned and conducted, aimed at providing the dynamic characterization of the main building.

The dynamic tests performed thus made it possible to improve the Finite Element Model implemented, as a result of the technical method named "Model Updating Analysis of the seismic vulnerability of the buildings was performed using Non-linear Static Analysis (Pushover).
